nile tower
cairo, egypt
2015
A monolithic office building set to become an embassy and consulate on the banks of the Nile river in Egypt, this tower stands as a distinctive and calm silhouette against the bustling backdrop of modern-day Cairo. The design’s open spatial distribution makes full use of the floor plate, which ensures maximum flexibility while presenting a clear geometric link to the surrounding ancient city.
The façades have column-free corners, providing panoramic views on every level. An intelligent skin adapts to different orientations and serves a dual purpose: offering thermal protection against excessive heat gain while also grounding the project in local tradition through the geometric patterns of the mousharrabiyye. Courtyards and hanging gardens along the façade create breathing spaces, functioning as exclusive green loggias that frame striking views of the Nile and the ancient Giza Pyramids from a rare perspective. Juxtaposing simplicity with the patterned intricacy of its façade, Nile Tower effectively addresses its cultural and urban contexts with a very functional layout and a strong image.
